Event medical kit has to cope with everything from blisters and heat exhaustion to serious injuries, often far from a hospital. Plan it in two parts: what roaming teams carry, and what the treatment area holds.
The roaming response bag
- Gloves, hand sanitiser and clinical waste bags
- Plasters, dressings and bandages in a range of sizes
- Bleed control: a tourniquet, haemostatic gauze and a trauma bandage
- Pocket mask for CPR
- Foil blankets and instant cold packs
- Burns dressings
- Shears, tweezers and a torch
- Radio and patient report forms
The treatment area
- An AED, plus spare pads
- Diagnostics: blood pressure, pulse oximeter and thermometer
- Larger stocks of dressings, eye wash and burns care
- Stretcher, carry chair or evacuation chair
- Blankets, water and a private space
- Mass casualty or triage kit for larger events
Plan around the event
- Weather: sun cream, water and cool packs in summer, blankets in winter
- Audience: alcohol, age and activity change what you see most
- Site: distance, slopes and stairs affect how you move casualties
- Size: larger events may fall under Martyn’s Law, so read our event first aid checklist
